Shaping your Organization
Three Questions that Will Shape Your Organization
Who are the relevant parties that need to weigh in?
What does winning look like?
What next steps can we take?
These three questions have undoubtedly shaped how we solve problems together.
Often, in the dizziness of our day-to-day operations, we neglect to ask simple questions that create extraordinary results.
Four scores and many years ago, a group of relevant parties sat in a room together.
For 17 days…. in a marathon-like effort, they collaborated, created clarity, and committed to a new way of doing things.
Why did it take so long? They pushed for a unanimous agreement by all people involved. Overall, they were after a consensus from all relevant parties in the room. Who ultimately represented relevant parties outside of the room.
I understand that you may not have 17 days to solve problems. Or you may need more than 17 days to solve problems.
However, I am confident that you could come up with at least 17 challenges you’d like your business to overcome. As well as 17 reasons why addressing those challenges would positively impact your business.
I am willing to bet you have 17 people willing to weigh in and commit to being a solution to these challenges.
Last but not least, within those 17 people, you have at least 17 hundred brilliant ideas sitting inside their minds.
17 is not the magic number, but the principle is still the same.
There is a ripple effect when relevant parties get into a room together, collaborate until clarity, and decide what they will commit to doing about it.
So what are the three questions you ask before any meeting?
Collaboration: Who are the relevant parties that need to weigh in?
Think: Who is directly involved and or impacted by this.
Clarity: What does winning look like?
Think: In 1 year, what do I hope the action around this challenge produces?
Commitment: What next steps can we take?
Think: Who will do what, and how will they do it?
Whether writing the Declaration of Independence or overcoming challenges in your business. The principles and their ripple effects remain the same.
