Strategic Planning: Start Well, End Well
The new year is knocking on our door, and if you’re like me, you’re thinking about ending the year well.
What I love about the end of the year in the good ole’ US of A is how we gather around tables with family and friends to eat and share stories.
If your family is anything like mine, much preparation is involved at the year’s end for these feasts.
Why do we prepare so much for the end of a year and neglect preparation for the beginning?
I’d like to suggest planning the beginning of the year the same way we end – gathered around a table, but with your team.
Set the table.
Create a collaborative atmosphere:
- Who needs to be there?
- What will you eat/drink?
- How will the conversation flow?
- What will we need to be successful?
Invite your people to the table.
Invite people, who represent all areas of your company and have meaningful conversations around the direction of your business. These topics are a great place to start:
- Market & Industry Trends
- 10 Year Goals
- 5 Year Goals
- 1-year Key Objectives
- Mission/Vision/Core Values
Create a clear vision.
A clear vision directs and points to how we will make our world a better place.
- Where have we been?
- Where are we now?
- Where do we want to go?
- How will we measure success?
Gathering around a table to remember your identity as an organization and charting a clear path with your team is the best way to end the year so you can start 2024 well!
Sometimes, it can be difficult to rise above the fog of the daily grind to have successful vision and mission talks. Our team is skilled in pulling teams out of monotony so they can see clearly and work better together!
