What is Coaching? What are the key pieces that make the relationship successful?

Traditional consulting involves “telling” a client what they should do. Coaching is a different approach. Coaching is a professional relationship that helps clients to discover their own insights. It involves regular meetings with lots of questions and accountability.

Bring Clarity:

They help the client determine what’s most important and clarify what to do next.

Asking Impactful Questions:

Even though you may have the answer, it is often better to let the client come up with the answer by asking them good insightful questions. This helps them to own the answer.

Accountability:

Coaching relationships often help build accountability for a client by building a concrete action plan. The question should be asked, “what will you do next?” Then the results should be reviewed during the next conversation.

Outside Insight and Relevant Tools:

Coaching relationships may pull on or use outside resources and tools that best support the growth and development of the client. These topics range from prioritization, personal development, developing others, handling difficult situations, etc.
