What is winning?

A few weeks back, I was at a sports complex with some close friends watching their children play rec league soccer.

Now, I know you may be thinking, what does rec league soccer have to do with growing a business, leading people, and developing my next leadership level.

Let me indulge you for a bit.

You see, at this stage in soccer, none of the players on the field have positions.

The coach on the sidelines encouraged them to pass the ball, run down the field and shoot when they could.

I bet you’re smiling right now because you can imagine the wild chaos of Little League Soccer in your mind.

The scary part is that many growing organizations also operate like this.

Leaders make calls from the outside looking in; there’s confusion about who does what, and even worse – there is no clear goal at the end of the field for the team to know how to score.

Look, I share this to say; you’re not alone.

Here are 3 key areas where you need to get really clear:

  1. Invest in Leadership Development: Quit making calls from the outside and let leaders emerge from the field.
  2. Solidify your Organizational Design: Identify the critical roles needed that move the ball down the field and talk openly about it with your team.
  3. Create a Visual Scoreboard: Develop clarity around what winning looks like.

Leave the chaos of the soccer field and start building clear systems for your team to win. Let’s connect soon to get your team headed in the right direction!
